Classroom Expectations and Rules

Classroom Policies and Behaviors

  • All rules that are outlined in the Student Handbook apply to this classroom.

  • Students are expected to act respectfully and appropriately to classmates and myself at all times!  Disrespectful behavior, including hateful comments, put downs of any type or joking comments will not be tolerated in this classroom!  Students’ words and actions should reflect how they would like to be treated.

  • Students should be respectful while I am instructing and are required to pay attention and remain seated.  There will be a lot of time spent practicing what is taught and in order to maximize that time, students must be attentive!

  • Students will use their manners and should not interrupt while other students or I are speaking.  We all learn by listening and interacting with each other!

  • Cell phones are NOT allowed.  There is a place for your cell phones if you choose to use it.  Any cell phone seen/used will result in the phone being taken and a referral written.  You may get your phone back from the office at the end of the day.

Discipline

  • All incidents will have an equal consequence.  Some incidents will result in an immediate referral or detention.  Such incidents include violent behavior, insubordination, and any disrespect towards others.  Other behaviors will be dealt with according to the handbook.

Homework and Grading Policies

  • Students will have lots of opportunities to earn points in many different ways.  These opportunities include:

    • Homework will be given as a completion or correct grade.

Late work will only be accepted 1 day after the due date and will receive HALF credit of the original grade.

NO late work will be accepted

after 1 day!

  • Participation Points: They will be given as a student participates in class.  A 100 point participation grade will be given at the end of the quarter.

  • Projects and Presentations: They will be given or turned in on days that they are due.  They may be turned in up to 1 day late, but will receive a penalty of one letter grade for the late day.  Anything past that will be a zero.

  • Tests and Quizzes: There will be 2 vocabulary quizzes, 1 verb quiz and one test for every chapter covered.

  • Grading Scale

    • 90-100%                      A

    • 80-89%                        B

    • 70-79%                         C

    • 60-69%                        D

    • 60% or below              F

  • A student must pass first semester to be eligible to go on to the second semester.  A grade of a C or higher is required to go on to Spanish 3 and 4.

Tardiness and Absences

  • Please be on time, in your seat, and ready to start at the beginning of class.  Tardies will be handled according to the handbook.

  • If you are absent from class, YOU are responsible for seeing me and checking your class folder to make up any assignments and receive any handouts that you may have missed.  Homework that is due will be handled according to the handbook rules.

  • If you are absent the day before a test, quiz, presentation, or project, you WILL be required to take the test or quiz and present or turn in the project on its due date unless there are unforeseen circumstances.
